50 Point Club
What is the 50 Point Club?
The 50 Point Club is the highest achievable statues a hurdle team can achieve per season. The points consists of 18 point from each Junior Varsity, Boys Frosh/Soph, Girls Varsity and Boys Varsity divisional score with a total of 72 points possible. The minimum a hurdle team can score is 250 points total in one season. The maximum a hurdle team can score is 360 points total in a season. A very difficult feat that majority of hurdle teams fail to do in the Foothill League.
How are teams chosen for the 50 Point Club?
If you believe your hurdle team is one of the 50 Point Club submit proof of all recorded league meets. In addition, records must match up with all the other schools that were in league meet.
How can you submit a hurdle team who should be apart of the 50 Point Club?

Future Beginnings
The 2018 track season for the Saugus Hurdlers was one of quite interests. On paper everybody knew that Senior Abbey Bryant was the favorite to win league and advance to CIF with ease, but for the entire hurdle squad what was to happen was not expected. Saugus hurdles in the 2017 season did not have many hurdlers in every division from Frosh/Soph, Junior Varsity Girls, Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys. That all changed in 2018 where Saugus added depth into their hurdle squad which was especially seen in the Frosh/Soph and Junior Varsity division.
How much depth did Saugus frosh/soph and junior varsity have? Well, throughout the foothill league season it became a daily occurrence for the Saugus frosh/soph and junior varsity to sweep both 100/110mH & 300mH races. Which adds up to a total of 36 points added to the hurdle squad points. Additionally, some of the lower division runners began to run in the varsity section to fill up lanes for Saugus track team to score more points. This was very successful for Saugus to make the 50 point club because it added additional death that could squeeze out a few points to make the task that so many hurdle teams fail to do.
A few highlights of the boys season were Lucas Bunde (10th) winning the F/S 110mH race with a time of 16.63, while his freshman teammates John Riley, Jacob Hunter and Brandon Francke ran 17.12, 18.33, and 19.59 good for 2nd, 4th and 6th place at league finals. For the 300mH F/S race all freshman Saugus hurdlers Koos Maddock, John Riley and Jacob hunter placed all in the top 5. With Koos Maddock winning the 300mH F/S League title with a time of 44.36. Showing the dominance that Saugus hurdle club will have for the next few years ahead of the boys side.
For the Varsity boys race it was all about Xavier Medina a sophomore who was the anchor on the Mens side. He was the main varsity boys hurdler representative for the club where he finished in league finals with a time of 42.95 in 6th place. Xavier who is showing great potential in the hurdles race is one to watch for when it comes to Saugus Hurdles 300mH races.
If you could describe the Saugus girls hurdlers one word that comes to mind is dominance Saugus girls were dominant throughout the entire season, but especially in Foothill League Championship Meet. During league finals the Saugus junior hurdlers accomplished a feat that no hurdle squad has ever done before. The Foothill League JV Girls championship race in the 100mH was dominated by Saugus having sweet the top 4 places of the race. The first three being all freshman. League Champion Grace Rutherford would take 1st, with fellow teammate Julie Muche taking 2nd, and Natalie Lin taking 3rd. Additionally junior, Annalise Perez would take 4th showing the mass dominance that Saugus hurdles had accumulated. Similar results were seen in the 300mH jv race with Grace Rutherford completing the double double in the hurdle events. Her fellow teammate Julie Mucha again was runner-up with Annalise Perez taking 4th place. Natalie Lin took 7th, but having 4 individuals from the same school in the same race shows great coaching and talent they have.
One things that has been seen with the 50 point club hurdle teams are they at least have one varsity talent that finds them selves in a bunch of records. For Saugus, this was seen with Abbey Bryant. Abbey Bryant all season was dominant from start to finish. Opening her season in the 15's and mid 46's Abbey left off exactly where she finished in the 2017 season. With added experience she was meant to do something special the league had not seen in a long time. Abbey dominated every league meet she went into with a 5-0 record in the 100mH races and 4-0 in the 300mH races with the Hart meet being the only 300mH race she did not run. Going into Finals everybody was expect the best women's hurdle in the foothill league to easily advance into CIF Prelims; however, what was done was special. Going into the league finals Abbey was close to breaking into sub 15 territory with only 3 other girls in foothill league history were able to accomplished. It was obvious from the get go when Abbey came out of her blocks she was due for a sub 15 in which she did. She not only broke into an exclusive club of 100mH, but had broken the 14 year old meet record held by Valencia's Katie Kirst. She was ecstatic of her accomplishment that made her reflect of what it meant to were the Saugus uniform. Abbey would go into CIF Prelims and easily advance into finals. At CIF Finals it was due or die for her where she would extended her season and come up as runner up in both hurdle events. She would be the first alternate in the 300mH Masters meet, but would race the 100mH Masters meet. At Masters she made history by being the first foothill league hurdler to advance since Golden Valley's Joey Darko (2011) to feature such an accomplishment. She would then would try to qualify for state, but her season came to an end with a new personal best of 14.46. Abbey Bryant is considered the most accomplished Saugus hurdler to have walked through the schools history. In all, Saugus's hurdlers showed they are a force to be reckoned with, and are planning on repeating next year.

Three-Peat🏆🏆🏆
Coming into the 2014 year Hart hurdles would have to overcome high expectations with athletes returning from injury and others returning from league titles. Coming back from injury was Leina Verrier who was out all of the 2013 season because of a stress fracture. While, Matthew Nali dealt with strained hamstrings throughout the 2013 season, but was lucky enough to salvage a 3rd place finish in the 300mH at league finals. Returning Foothill League Champion in both 110 and 300 meter hurdles, Conner West, was the favorite for both hurdle events and likely become a back-to-back champion. Defending JV Champion in the 300 meter hurdles, Julianna Marshall, would be taking the next step into the Varsity Level. Maisy Potter was focused on redeeming herself after finishing 2nd in the JV 100mH in league finals. With the start of pre-season track meets, everyone performed as they had at the end of the last year. Conner West ran a blistering PR @ the time of 39.06a at the Burbank Relays that set the new record at the meet that still stands today. A week later Conner and Matthew would make Hart Track History by running sub 40's in the same race for the first time since 1993 and were the next pair of teammates running sub 40's since 2011. A great accomplishment for the duo that likes that haven't been seen in the Foothill League for sometime.
The Maurice Greene Invitational, a week before the first league meet against Golden Valley, injured two of the star hurdlers on the team. Matthew Nali ended up slicing his left quad over the 5th hurdle in the 300mH. While, Jackson Potter broke his RIGHT wrist falling over the 6th hurdle in the 110mH. Conner West punctured his left quad in the high jump from his spikes, which required multiple stitches. Afterwards, Coach Larry David vowed that "We are never coming back here ever again!" In the end, Matthew Nali would be sidelined for a week, missing the league opener. While, Jackson Potter continued to compete despite his wrist since injuries had tormented him his last two seasons.
Hart vs. Golden Valley: League began well with the Hart hurdles team dominating Golden Valley, taking 46 of the possible 72 hurdle points. The highlight of the meet was the boys 110mH where Conner West and Golden Valley's Malik Young were tied going into the 6th hurdle when critical errors Malik made while hitting the hurdle. Just a week after Connor West set his new PR in the 300 meter hurdles (38.49) at the Pasadena Games placing him 3rd ALL-TIME in Hart 300mH History he pulled his hamstring in practice. He would try to salvage the season as best as possible but the injury would prove to be to much in league prelims.
Hart vs. West Ranch: The girls varsity team would have its most challenging competition of the year against West Ranch. With new freshman power houses Adaugo Oguejiofor and Julia Watler the girls were slathered in the 100mH, but showed some life in the 300mH with a first place finish by Leina Verrier. The entire hurdles team would only budge out 41 totally points. Thanks to the strong efforts of first places finishes in Boys Varsity, Boys Frosh/Soph, and JV Girls.
Hart vs. Valencia: The return of Conner West for the 300mH was the big news of the meet. With Jackson Potter and Matthew Nali going 1-2 in the 110mH race. Conner West and Matthew Nali were able to do the same thing in the 300mH. Also both going into the 39's. For the Girls Varsity and JV Girls they would sweep both hurdle events. The total score at the end of the the day was Hart 69 and Valencia 3 with only 3rd place finishes coming from the boys races.
Hart vs. Canyon: After a strong league meet. Hart Boys Varsity would compete against the cross town rival, Canyon Cowboys. As predicted the Girls Varsity would sweep the 300mH with Kate Linn, Cara Newberry and Leina Verrier. Girls J/V with the duo of Maisy Potter and Kassie Matthews would go 1-2 in both 100mH and 300mH races. The Boys Frosh/Soph would do their job scoring 1st and second place to secure. The boys varsity would struggle. Without the defending League Champion Conner West, both Jackson Potter and Matthew Nali were in unknown territory. In the 110mH race Canyon went 1-2 easily like they had been doing all season. The 300mH race was expected to have Jarrett Davidson win, but Matthew Nali would have something else to say about that. History was made. Matthew Nali ran a 38.78 against Canyon moving in to 5th All-Time in Hart History and 9th All-Time in SCV Hurdles History.
Hart vs. Saugus: The up and coming meet against Saugus the Hart Hurdle crew knew that they only had to score 39 points to average 50 points again to 3-peat. An easy task that they all knew was possible; however, the mindset of everybody was to score as much as possible, but have fun doing so. When the meet was over Hart hurdles scored a total of 56 points. Easily eclipsing the 50 point mark and averaging their highest total yet in the 3 seasons at 53.4 points. A 3-Peat had happened. At the end of the track season the Greatest Hurdle Coach in Hart's History, Coach David would leave hurdles to coach the girls distance squad where he is still today.

Two-Peat?
The 2013 Season had a shaky start. With the departures of Annie Potter, Paige Forbes, Caitlin Cahill, Joey Hernandez, Caleb Lunetta and Riley Stauffer. To add more to the pot Leina Verrier was diagnosed with a stress fracture on her leg that ended her season right before it began. If it couldn't get any worse, your wrong. Matthew Nali hamstring were weak at the point of tearing jeopardizing the 50 Point Club, but also another persons season. With huge shakeups within the Hart hurdles core team leaders were needed for the success of the team. On the Girls Varsity side Senior Lindsey Estrada would be just that. Girls Junior Varisty, Junior Julianna Marshall would lead. Boys Varsity would be lead by Junior Conner West while Boys Frosh/Soph would be lead by Sophomore and returning from injury Jackson Potter. With the team leaders taking their place the new additions to the team prove why this team might be able to repeat in scoring 50 points. New additions were Senior Hannah Joslin, Junior Kate Linn, Freshman Kayla Kubicam, Maisy Potter, Sam Kelly, John Linn and DJ Aponik.
Hart vs. Saugus: Season began with a bang against Saugus were Conner West would cruise to an easy 1st place finish in both hurdle events. Lindsey Estrada would also do the something in the Girls Varsity dominating from start to finish. Jackson Potter would show the league what he was made of since last season ended during the first meet. He would also cruise to easy victory's in both hurdle events. Julianna Marshall would have some competition in her Girls Junior Varsity race against her teammate Maisy Potter were both pushed each other to the end in the 100mH with Julianna on top. Non the less it was a Hart hurdle victory even though they only scored 42 points since the team was mostly comprised of new recruits.
Hart vs. Golden Valley: Next match-up was against Golden Valley where Lindsey Estrada would be busy against Caitlyn Zindroski in the 100mH and Zakora Merriweather in the 300mH. Lindsey would pull off the victory against Caitlyn in the 100mH, but would get second in the 300mH behind Zakora. For the girls JV Julianna and Maisy would continue to show their dominance by competing all the way through the races and going 1-2 with each other. Boys Varsity saw the temporary return of Matthew Nali from hamstring injury where both him and Conner went 1-2 in the 300mH race. In addition, in the 110mH race Conner and Steven Sega would go 1-2 in the 110mH respectively. The boys Frosh/Soph saw Jackson Potter continue to dominate in both the 100mH and 300mH while they would sweep the 300mH with Jackson Potter, DJ Aponik and Sam Kelly respectively.
Hart vs. West Ranch: The halfway point of the season was upon the Hart Hurdle team where Conner West would set a new dual meet record against West Ranch in both hurdle events. Dominating in the 110mH and 300mH no hurdler stood a chance. Even with the absence of Matthew. Jackson Potter would be challenge in the 110mH against Ryan Doster; however, would preserver showing that experience matters in the race. Lindsey Estrada, Cara Newberry and Kate Linn would sweep both hurdle events. Julianna and Maisy did there work, but Julianna started to show separation against Maisy showing that if anybody was going to be victorious it would be her.
Hart vs. Valencia: The best way to describe the Hart vs. Valencia would have to be that scene from Indian Jones when Harrison Ford is running away from the boulder. Although not much happened in the 100mH/110mH race a lot happened in the 300mH. The girls wold sweep with ease; unfortunately, for the boys it was a different story. Conner West narrowly excepted freshman Justin Baltau where he took advantage of Justin's fall in the last hurdle. When it came to Jackson Potter he didn't have the same results. Jackson Potter season was going well. Nothing could stop him until the 300mH race started. Jackson had a big lead that the next closest guy was a hurdle behind him The second to last hurdle would prove dangerous for Jackson when he would land weird and dislocate his knee, ending his season in a blink of an eye. A devastating blow to the team, but most importantly to Jackson who was having such a string season and was the leading individual to win the 300mH Frosh/Soph in league.
Hart vs. Canyon: After losing Jackson Potter the week before the Frosh/Soph team had nobody to lean on. They would only be able to scrap 8 points out of the 18 possible for there division. The team only need 44 points total to repeat in the 50 Point season average. Strong performances from Maisy, Julianna and Sophie really pushed the team forward with their sweeps. Girls Varsity would see Lindsey (Hart) vs Lindsey (Canyon) where each competitor would get fight to the finish line. Hart's Linsey took the 100mH while Canyon's Lindsey took the 300mH. Boys Varsity saw junior Jarrett Davidson false start having Conner and Steven Sega get 1st and 3rd place. When it came to the 300mH Matthew Nali returned with Conner West to compete in the most anticipating Hurdle match-up league was looking for too. Conner West, Jarrett Davidson and Matthew Nali would all be tied going into the final stretch where Conner West took the lead over the final hurdle against Jarrett Davidson. Hart Boys Varsity would go 1st and 3rd. The Hart Hurdles Crew scored 4 points more than what they needed in order to average 50 Points. Their average was 50.8 even with the type of season they had.

The Start of a Dynasty
Coach David had a group of young individual hurdlers that had loads of potential. Not because of fast times in league, but because of the youth and quantity he had. "I believe that this group of hurdlers can average 50 points or more." Coach David said in a small meeting to the hurdlers before league. A quote that motivated the group of young hurdle individuals. Practices would be remembered where Riley Stauffer, Conner West, and Matthew Nali always going back at it. Also on the girls side where Lindsey Estrada, Annie Potter, Paige Forbes and Leina Verrier would also compete against each other. The future of Hart hurdles was in a transition the likes that haven't been seen in Hart's History.
Hart vs. Canyon: The start of the 2012 League competition would get off to a bumpy start since Hart Hurdles had to go up against their hardest competition of the year. Canyon High School was stacked with some of the best competition in the league. Brendan and Shane Stach would be taking care of the boys side. Taylor Thomas would be taking care of the girls side for the hurdles. In Taylor competition she would just thrash her competitors by beating them with no mercy. For Brendan he would dominate the 110mH race without giving it a second thought. However, in the 300mH race Brendan and Riley "Rocket" Stauffer of Hart would go at it. First to the hurdle was Riley, then Brendan and so on so forth. When it came down to the final stretch both runners were tied. Going over the 2nd to last hurdle Brendan would make a critical error on his trail leg and would fall over. Riley narrowly escaping the victory against Brendan. When it came to the boys Frosh/Soph race especially the 110mH, Conner West would take care against the competition where he would dominate with ease; however, in that race Hart's Jackson Potter broke both his arm's during the meet and it would sideline him from hurdles the rest of the season. That wouldn't stop jackson where he would compete on the distance Frosh/Soph team just to stay active and build for next season.
Hart vs. Saugus: The week after the Canyon meet the team had to rally together after the lost of Jackson Potter. They were motivated to at least show what Hart Hurdles would do after a bug lost like that. Not much happened at Saugus since it was pretty even everywhere. It was just who would be able to get the most points possible. On the Boys side they swept all 1st places. The girls did the something in all level easily getting 40 points. The total at the end of the day with the seconds and third places finishes was 49 points total. Almost 50 points, but not quite.
Hart vs. Golden Valley: WINDY!!! It was a windy day in Golden Valley that saw Matthew Nali take first in both hurdle events for Frosh/Soph. Rachel and Liena Verrier take the JV level. However, on the Varsity side it was challenging. Boys Varsity saw Riley Stauffer sweep both hurdle events with Conner right behind him; however, with Connor Zondroski being right their with Riley for the 300mH it was nail bitting that almost saw Connor win. Luckily for Riley he pulled out in time keeping his undefeated streak in 300mH safe. Girls Varsity saw freshman Sky Harbin destroy the girls varsity. Paige and Annie were able to pick up the extra points in the 100mH race. While Lindsey took 2nd in the 300mH race. When the meet was done the team had just 50 points.
Hart vs. West Ranch: A very easy day for the Hart hurdle crew just going on with their business didn't really pay attention to idea of average 50 points in the season. Little did they notice with many 1st and 2nd place finishes they had actually gotten 61 points without them knowing. It wasn't until Coach David told them the next day that they scored 61 and had only needed to score 47 points in the last meet to average exactly 50. The 50 point season was still alive.
Hart vs. Valencia: Hart Boys Varsity came in with a mission. Sweep. They swept both hurdle events with Riley, Conner, and Steven in the 110mH. The 300mH saw Riley, Conner and Caleb sweep. The girls Varsity was mixed with Hart going 1st in the 100mH. The 300mH saw Valencia take the win, but Hart was able to get 2nd and 3rd. Girls JV was dominated by Rachel Bennett in both hurdle events. When it came down to the Boys Frosh/Soph everything was on the line. They had to secure 1st place in both events to make sure they would pull the 50 point season. Hart's Matthew Nali was match up with Valencia freshman Stone Jackson. The 110mH was close, but Hart's Matt Nali ran away with it after the 6th hurdle. The 300mH was closer since with Stone Jackson on the tail of Matt Nali the entire race until better form pulled away to win it all. Hart Hurdles 2012 Team average 50 points on the dot to average in a season the likes that haven't been seen in Hart History.
